Operational Medical Director

Dr. Wilcoxson began her Lynchburg Fire Department career in 1991 as a firefighter/EMT assigned to C Shift Medic 1. She achieved the rank of Firefighter III and practiced as a Cardiac Technician before leaving to complete pre-med requirements in 1998, and then went on to paramedic certification through the University of Virginia before beginning medical school in 2002.  She completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in 2009, and went on to serve as an ED Attending, EMS Physician and EMS Medical Director in a wide variety of settings before returning to Virginia in 2018. 

Dr. Wilcoxson attained board certification in Emergency Medicine in 2010, and EMS subspecialty board certification in 2015. In addition, she holds a Bachelors in English from Sweet Briar College, an MBA from Auburn University, and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Excelsior College.

Currently Dr. Wilcoxson is the Operational Medical Director for the Lynchburg Fire Department. In addition, she serves as a Medical Team Manager for FEMA's Pennsylvania US&R Task Force One, based out of the Philadelphia Fire Department. As a reservist, she has served as a flight medic for the Army National Guard, and currently is assigned as a Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT) Physician for the Air Force Reserve.
