On Thursday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m., the Lynchburg Public Library and the Legacy Museum of African American History will co-host a presentation entitled “Beyond the Battlefield,” an exploration of the historical archaeology of the Hannah Reynolds Site at Appomattox Courthouse National Historical Park. The evening’s discussion will be presented by Dr. Kevin R. Fogle, Research Affiliate with the Department of Anthropology at the University of South Carolina. He will be introduced by David Woolridge, Museum Technician at Appomattox Courthouse National Historical Park.
Dr. Fogle will discuss the historical and archaeological research into the life of Hannah Reynolds, an enslaved woman who was the only civilian casualty of the battle of Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. Through artifacts and documents, Dr. Fogle will examine the initial search for the Reynolds dwelling and share some preliminary results of the 2018 excavations.
This presentation will take place at the Lynchburg Public Library, 2315 Memorial Avenue, in the Community Meeting Room and is free and open to the public.
