Internships

About the Legal Internship Program

Our legal internship programs provide an opportunity for law students to earn valuable hands-on experience by participating in the day-to-day work of a prosecutor's office. Interns here are fully immersed in the criminal justice system and assist the attorneys and other office staff with all aspects of the job, from case preparation to actually litigating cases in the courtroom. Previous interns have come to us from law schools at Regent University, the University of Virginia, Washington and Lee University, Liberty University, the University of Missouri, and Texas Tech.

Applying for Summer Legal Internship

We typically accept 2-3 law students for uncompensated internships during the summer. Candidates are preferably rising third-years who have obtained their Virginia Third-Year Practice Certificate and are interested in practicing criminal law. Any rising second or third-year law students, however, are welcome to apply. If you are interested in a summer internship, please submit a cover letter, resume and brief (5-15 pages) writing sample by March of the academic year to:

Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney's Office
Jessica Vormwald
901 Church Street,
Lynchburg, VA 24504

Or send the same via email to jvormwald@ocalynchburg.com

Applying for Academic Year Legal Internship

Our office currently partners directly with the law schools at Washington and Lee University, the University of Virginia, and Liberty University. These schools send us interns through their own academic programs. If you are a student at one of these law schools and are interested in an academic year internship, see your school's internship coordinator.
