Mayor’s Youth Council to Host Donation-Led Car Wash (May 20)

The Mayor’s Youth Council, in partnership with the Lynchburg Fire Department, will be hosting a donation-led car wash benefiting Park View Community Mission’s Food for Families program on Saturday, May 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Fire Station 6, located at 2084 Fort Avenue.
Temporary Lane Closure on a Portion of Wards Road

Continuing Monday, May 22 through Friday, May 26, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., daily and weather permitting, an outside lane closure will occur between 2012 and 2154 Wards Road to accommodate Verizon crews performing maintenance work. A flagging operation will be in place as needed.
Portion of Commerce Street to Temporarily Close

Beginning Monday, May 22 and continuing for approximately two weeks, a portion of Commerce Street (between Fifth Street and Seventh Street) will be closed to all traffic, including emergency vehicles, in order to accommodate the rebuilding and paving of the street.
Incoming traffic to the US Pipe plant from Amherst County will require a detour to Main Street.

Lynchburg Sheriff ’s Office Awarded Its Fifth Accreditation From Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission
Sheriff Don Sloan is pleased to announce that the Lynchburg Sheriff's Office continues to be numbered among an elite group of Virginia law enforcement agencies having earned and maintained accreditation status through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC). Of the more than 360 law enforcement agencies in Virginia, only 102 of these have achieved this distinction. The Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office was initially accredited in November 2006 and has since earned its fifth accreditation certification.
City of Lynchburg’s Vacant Building Registration Program and Notice to All Owners of Vacant Residential/Commercial Buildings
In 2016, Lynchburg City Council amended the Vacant Building Registration Program in order to help prevent areas of the City becoming blighted due to vacant and "derelict" commercial and residential buildings.
