Social Services Customers: If you only are coming to the office to bring in paperwork, you are encouraged to email your verification to your social worker or use the drop box by the curb to leave paperwork. The box will be emptied several times each day and you will be be contacted by your worker if there are any questions or requests for additional paperwork. Social Services main contacts.

In response to Governor Northam’s recent Stay at Home Order due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Lynchburg’s Human Services Building, located at 99 Ninth Street, will close to the public effective Thursday, April 2 until further notice.
- Benefits and services will continue to be provided as needed.
- Residents may continue to apply for benefits online at www.commonhelp.virginia.gov.
- For information regarding SNAP, TANF and Medicaid, call toll free (855) 636-4379.
- Those who need to speak with someone at the Human Services Department can call the main number, (434) 455-5850.
During these stressful times, there may be an increase in incidents of suspected child or adult abuse. Anyone who has concerns or is a victim of such abuse should contact the appropriate local office: Child Protective Services (434) 455-5726; Adult Protective Services (434) 455-5840. Anyone who is in immediate danger should call 911.
