City Attorney

The Office provides legal services to City Council, the City Manager, City departments and agencies, and the Lynchburg School Board. Services include rendering informal and formal legal opinions; recommending appropriate legal changes in the City Code, regulations and policies; advising of changes in law which affect the City; drafting legal documents; handling real estate matters including necessary title examinations, negotiations and closings; prosecuting and defending lawsuits on behalf of the City; supervising the City's Risk Management activities and the Self-Insurance Plan; working with area members of the General Assembly, reviewing bills which concern the City and helping coordinate the activities of the City before the General Assembly.

The City Attorney is appointed by and reports to City Council. The Office also includes a deputy city attorney, three assistant City attorneys, a paralegal, a legal secretary, and an administrative secretary.
