Greenway Park Daffodil Project

Daffodils planted in park

The City of Lynchburg’s Public Works Department has a team of dedicated professionals who ensure areas around the city are accessible, neat in appearance and appealing to the public’s eye. A recent project along the Lynchburg Expressway is just one of their efforts to beautify the city’s landscape.

Southbound motorists may have noticed the 20-ft. “LYH” lettering along the embankment on the expressway between the Main Street and Grace Street exits. This once dormant site, known as Greenway Park, will soon transform into a burst of color with newly planted daffodils that will bloom into the shapes of LYH!

Last month, this area was carefully prepped and tilled by Public Works crews who then planted 9,000 early blooming Dutch Master daffodil bulbs and covered them with plenty of mulch to help protect them from cold, winter temperatures.

In March, Greenway Park is expected to glow with the sight of these bright, yellow flowers! Daffodils naturally spread new seedlings, so sprouts that bloom each year will remind everyone that spring is just around the corner!
