Residents are asked to be aware that on Saturday, October 19, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Lynchburg Police and Fire Departments, will be conducting Active Shooter Exercise at the Lynchburg City Court Complex, located in the 900 block of Court Street, specifically at the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courthouse.

Community Health Event (Oct. 22)
September 27, 2019The Lynchburg Fire Department is partnering with Lynchburg Parks and Recreation, Centra Health Trauma Services and the Daniels Hill Community Center to conduct a free, community health event on Tuesday, October 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daniels Hill Community Center, 317 Norwood Street.
During the event, basic medical and life safety techniques will be taught, including hands-only CPR training and emergency bleeding control. This event will provide basic medical training that can be used at work, school, home and in the community at large.
Reminder: Community Survey Due
September 27, 2019The City of Lynchburg is reminding residents who received the Lynchburg Community Survey to return the completed survey back by mail (postage paid) or to complete the survey online. The survey is completely anonymous and was mailed to 1,500 randomly chosen households (375 per ward).
Temporary Detour and Lane Closure on Fifth St.
June 14, 2019Beginning Monday, June 17, Fifth Street between Main Street and Federal Street will experience temporary lane closures and detours while contractors complete brick crosswalk repairs in multiple locations.
On Monday, June 17, contractors will repair a crosswalk located in the traffic circle located at Fifth Street and Federal Street. At times, portions of the traffic circle will be closed and a detour will direct traffic to use Fourth Street and Harrison Street as a bypass. This detour is expected to last only one day.

Rolling Closures on Atherholt Rd. Starting Nov. 5
October 31, 2018Beginning Monday, November 5, and continuing into the following week of November 12, Atherholt Road between Tate Springs Road and crossing Langhorne Road will experience rolling closures and flagging operations while contractors for Level 3 Communications, LLC conduct installation of fiber optics and pavement boring operations. These closures and flagging operations will be conducted from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily until work is completed in the project area.
