Any events that might impact Downtown parking will be listed below:
  • Saturday, March 16, the St. Paddy's Day 5K will happen in the Depot Plaza and Black Water Creek Trail area. There will be signs, cones and barricades up for this event.
  • Saturday, April 6, the Point of Honor 5k will happen in the Depot Plaza and Black Water Creek Trail area. There will be signs, cones and barricades up for this event.
  • Saturday, April 6, the American Heart Association Heart Walk will happen in the Percival's Island Parking Lot and Trail. The Percival's Island Parking Lot will be closed. 
  • Monday, February 5 and continuing for approximately 3 months, the Billings and Collections Department and Teller Windows will temporarily close to the public in order to accommodate office construction and renovations. Payments for parking tickets/citations or parking permits can be made by either the Parking Portal, by mail or dropping in the drop box next to City Hall.

The City of Lynchburg operates several public parking facilities in the Central Business District.

  • For a quick downtown visit, there are 1,000 on-street parking spaces including handicapped parking spaces.
  • For longer visits to downtown, there are approximately 1,485 off-street parking spaces which are managed by the City. Approximately 1,000 of these spaces are available to the public. There are an estimated 4,137 privately owned or managed parking spaces in the downtown area.
  • Visits on nights (5 pm to 8 am), weekends, and City Holidays (New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Friday, and two Christmas Holidays are free.

The Parking Management Department manages and operates off-street parking facilities, issues permits, provides the public with parking information, and works closely with the Parking Authority.

The Enforcement Officers enforce the parking policy and ordinance within the Central Business District.
