In addition to providing 911 services to the City of Lynchburg, the Department of Emergency Services houses Lynchburg's Emergency Management Program and Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Department members provide command and control support through the EOC to on-scene incident command during disaster situations and provide the community with risk assessments and emergency preparedness information to help mitigate disasters that may occur in the future. National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) training for City employees is also coordinated by our department (see NIMS Training Plan).
Department members also oversee the City's Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). The EOP identifies the departments and agencies that are responsible for providing command and coordination capabilities for large-scale or unusual events and describes how the multiple command and response components are organized and managed. It provides the framework to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from any emergency or disaster.
On this page, you can find information regarding emergency plans available for the public to review and the emergency preparedness groups we administer at Emergency Services. If you have any questions about the City Emergency Management Program, please email us or call 434-455-4290, Option 5, and we will respond to your message as soon as possible.
