Before, during and after an emergency situation, you should listen to local media for instructions from emergency officials. There may be times when you are advised to stay in place until it is safe to travel. Consider purchasing a NOAA Weather Radio to stay informed about weather and emergency situations. Also during emergencies, phone lines may be tied up. However, text messages will usually go through. Encourage all family member to learn how to send and receive text messages.
