Main Street Renewal Project Public Meeting (Aug. 12)
The Main Street Renewal Project is scheduled to begin in mid-September 2019 and includes four blocks of Main Street (from Eighth to 12th Streets and Tenth Street (from Main to Church Streets). At this meeting, representatives from the City of Lynchburg and English Construction will discuss project details including the forecasted project schedule and the tentative block-by-block phasing. Additional detailed project information regarding parking, business and residential access and detours will be also be presented.
Last summer, the City of Lynchburg and Appalachian Power announced a partnership to invest $17 million in the Downtown Lynchburg area. This joint Main Street Renewal Project will replace aging waterlines and modernize the underground electrical system to improve reliability and provide for future development.
After both organizations complete their underground infrastructure upgrades, the City will restore each block with updated streetscape features that encourage an enhanced pedestrian and vehicular experience. Features will include new brick sidewalks, historically-designed streetlights, new trees and plantings and redesigned parking and loading zone areas.
