    Lynchburg City Council Chooses Leadership

    Today, Monday, July 2, at 10:00 a.m., Lynchburg City Council held its organizational meeting.  During the organizational meeting, City Council elected Treney Tweedy to serve as Mayor (President of Council) and Councilmember MaryJane Dolan to serve as Vice Mayor (Vice President of Council). 
    Treney Tweedy is an at-large councilmember and was first elected in May 2014 and was recently re-elected in May 2018.  She is a former member of the Lynchburg School Board and currently works with the Eastern Region for Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, a non-profit organization which strives to help people and families in our community achieve a better life through work and independence.  
    Dolan was first elected to represent Ward 1.With a career in the insurance arena, she founded Colonial Brokerage House in 1978, an insurance brokerage agency serving the mid-Atlantic region. She retired in 2008 to focus her energies on community initiatives. Currently, she sits on the boards of Centra Health Foundation, University of Lynchburg Trustee, Lynchburg Community Action Board (Lyn-CAG), Horizons Advisor Board, Virginia Municipal League (VML) Community & Economic Development Committee and The Opera on The James Advisory Board. 
    Also today, Mayor Tweedy made the following City Council Policy Committee assignments:
    Finance Committee:  Jeff Helgeson, Chair; Randy Nelson, Beau Wright
    Physical Development Committee: Turner Perrow, Chair; MaryJane Dolan, Sterling Wilder
    Mayor Tweedy will serve as an ex-officio member of both committees.
