Bridges Out of Poverty to Host Bed Bug Awareness Program (Dec. 18)

On Monday, December 18, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Bridges Out of Poverty - Central Virginia (BOCV) will host a free Bed Bug Basic Training program at the Miller Center, 301 Grove Street. Open to the general public, the training may be helpful for rental management companies, social service agencies and shelter operators and will include an open question-and-answer forum in the afternoon.

Guest Speaker, Dr. Dini Miller, is Virginia Tech’s internationally recognized expert on Urban Pest Management, particularly bed bug biology, behavior and control.  Dr. Miller works constantly with the pest management industry, apartment managers, schools, shelters and hotel personnel to understand the challenges stakeholders face when dealing with urban pest (particularly bed bug) infestations.

BOCV is hosting the training because anyone, regardless of income or social status, can be affected by bedbugs. Individuals in poverty often have fewer resources to deal with the problem.

Those who are interested in attending can register online at The deadline for registration is Friday, December 15.
