Appalachian Power to Make Improvements to Fifth St. Vault (Dec. 2-16)
Beginning Monday, December 2, and continuing for approximately two weeks, Appalachian Power crews will work at the intersection of Fifth and Main Streets to replace the concrete top of an underground vault.
During this time, northbound traffic on Fifth Street at Main Street will be narrowed to one lane. No detours will be necessary, and flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Motorists should use caution while traveling though the work zone, obey traffic signage and drive slowly as crews will be working in the street. Traffic entering and leaving the Academy Center of the Arts should not be affected.
This work is part of the Main Street Renewal Project which began in September 2019 as a joint venture between the City of Lynchburg and Appalachian Power to upgrade Downtown Lynchburg’s underground utility infrastructure and restore each block with updated streetscape features. Due to faster-than-expected progress, the target completion date of the project is now summer 2021.
