MaryJane Dolan (Ward I)
A native of Minnesota, MaryJane’s insurance career began while a student at the University of Minnesota as she gravitated from the world of psychology to the field of insurance. MaryJane came to Lynchburg from Minneapolis in 1978 when she married Ron Dolan.
Continuing her career in the insurance arena she founded Colonial Brokerage House in 1978, an insurance brokerage agency serving the mid-Atlantic region. She was one of the first women in the United States to build an insurance brokerage agency from the ground up, a business that continues to grow today. After forty plus successful years in the insurance business she retired in 2008 to focus her energies on community initiatives.
She is a CLU, was a member of NAILBA, NALU. LALU, and the Lynchburg Estate Planning Council. She held board positions on most of these professional organizations.
MaryJane was honored with the 2003 Mayor’s Award of Excellence, she received the 2005 Outstanding Philanthropist award from the Virginia Piedmont Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, was the recipient of the National Conference for Community Justice Award in 1997, and was the 1990 recipient of the Academy of Women’s Business and Industry Achievement award.
Currently she sits on the boards of Centra Health Foundation, Chairs The Greater Lynchburg Community Trust Board, is a Lynchburg College Trustee and serves on the United Way of Central Virginia Board, Horizons Advisor Board and The Opera on The James Advisory Board. Some of her past boards include Lynchburg College Business Advisory Board, Amazement Square, YMCA and YWCA.
MaryJane is a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and for fun she loves to travel, golf, hike, read, and spend special time with her five grown children and nine grandchildren.
MaryJane was elected to represent Ward I for the term July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2020.
