11/1/13 Update: On this date, the Virginia State Police Dive Team was assisting the Lynchburg Police Department by searching areas of the James River. During this search, dive team members located the missing bayonet. Members of the dive team will be available to answer further questions at the Lynchburg Police Department West Building, 805 Court Street, Lynchburg, VA between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM today.

8/17/2013 Update on Malicious Wounding
At 7:58 pm this evening, Lynchburg Police Officers responded to 2224 Tulip St. to serve two arrest warrants. On arrival, officers observed an adult male flee from the house into a wooded area. After a foot pursuit, this person surrendered to officers without incident. Based on the information available at this time, officers did not use Tasers or any other use of force in this apprehension.
Officers walked this person back to Tulip St. The person appeared to be in normal condition. At this point, he told the officers that he was not the fugitive officers were seeking. As they neared Tulip St., the person became lethargic and collapsed. Officers immediately summoned emergency medical assistance to the scene. Lynchburg Fire and EMS
transported the person to Lynchburg General Hospital, where at last report he was undergoing treatment.
We have since confirmed that this person is not the fugitive officers were seeking. Please note that this statement is being provided based upon information available at this time. We will provide further information as it becomes available.
The following person is the subject that officers were attempting to serve arrest warrants on at 2224 Tulip St.
Kenneth Leon Ford, age 31 of Lynchburg 6 feet, 155 lbs, black hair, brown eyes
Tattoos on both arms and his back
Ford has outstanding arrest warrants for:
- Violation of Probation
- Capias for Violation of Probation
He was not located at this address and is still wanted on the charges listed above.

The Lynchburg Police Department will be participating in the “Special Olympics Dough Raiser” event to support Special Olympics Virginia on Tuesday, August 13 at CiCi’s Pizza (Candler’s Station Shopping Center – 3700 Candler’s Mountain Road). From 11:00am – 8:00pm all patrons who mention “Special Olympics” at CiCi’s Pizza will have 10% of their bill donated to the Special Olympics athletes in the Lynchburg area.
Additionally, officers will be outside the restaurant taking donations for icons to “Cover the Cruiser”. Citizens can make a one dollar donation to Special Olympics Virginia and they will receive an icon to place on a Lynchburg Police Department cruiser that will be on site.
The Lynchburg Police Department and Lynchburg Fire Department will be holding the 6th Annual Guns & Hoses Charity Softball Game on Sunday, August 11 at 4:00 pm at City Stadium.
Tickets for the event are $10 and include a free t-shirt, plus admission to both the Guns & Hoses game and the Lynchburg Hillcats game that follows. Tickets can be purchased at:

Ticket proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
On 07-23-2013 at approximately 1730 hrs., Officers with the Lynchburg Police Department responded to Walgreens, located at 2004 Wards Road, for an armed robbery. Upon there arrival Officers spoke with the Manager. The Manager stated that an unknown white male entered the store possibly armed with a handgun under his shirt. The unknown white male approached the Pharmacist and demanded medication. The unknown white male then fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of medication.
The unknown white male is described as:
Approximately 6-05, 165lbs, mid to late 20’s, wearing a baseball cap, a baggie white T-shirt, blue jean shorts, and high top style tennis shoes. The suspect also had red or brownish colored hair cut above his ears. Further surveillance shows a tattoo on the back of the suspect’s right leg (in the calf area)….

LIGGATES RD. RAPE UPDATE:
On Wednesday, July 10, 2013 an arrest was made in the Liggates Rd. rape that occurred
on March 4, 2013. Richard Dewayne Martin-Busher, Jr. (age 21 of Lynchburg) was
· Breaking and Entering
Martin-Busher was held without bond on these charges in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail
Martin-Busher was previously arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering at the
Grand Home Furnishings in Lynchburg on July 9, 2013.
Additional charges against Martin-Busher for other property crimes (unrelated to the
Liggates Rd. rape) are expected in the future.
