    Junior Naturalists

Get outside and have an adventure! The new Junior Naturalists program is designed to encourage kids ages 8-12 to get outside, engage with nature, and explore the great outdoors through hands-on, adventurous activities. The program will be offered at Ivy Creek Park year-round, on Saturday mornings from 9:00am to 11:00am. Each program has a fee of $5.00.
    Current scheduled programs include:

    Animal Detectives - June 28
You may not see the animals, but you can find tracks, scat, and other clues to discover who lives in the woods and wetlands. We will make fake scat or castings of animal tracks

    Wilderness Survival - July 26
Survive the wilderness! Learn survival techniques, including fire building, finding shelter, and basic wilderness know-how.

    Nature Grossology on August 23
Explore the weird but true, wild and wacky, slimiest, stinkiest and downright yuckiest side of nature.

Each of these programs will be led by one of the Lynchburg Parks and Recreation naturalists. After children attend three programs they will receive their Junior Naturalist patch as a memento of their adventures.

Parents can register their children for Junior Naturalist programs online or at the Lynchburg Parks and Recreation Administrative Offices, 2704 Concord Turnpike. For more information, contact the Nature Zone at (434) 455-5828.
