Major Bridge Construction Projects Scheduled
Lynchburg motorists can plan to encounter two major bridge construction projects to commence in June 2010. Beginning June 1, work will begin on the Rivermont Bridge. The project includes major rehabilitation and repair work such as upgrades to the bridge expansion joints, repairs to the roadway drainage system, new lights and railing systems. The bridge will remain open throughout the project. However, motorists may expect some delays. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2011.
The demolition of the existing Florida Avenue Bridge, as well as the construction of a new one, is scheduled for late June/early July, with completion anticipated for late fall 2010. This portion of Florida Avenue will be closed for approximately four months while the new bridge is being constructed.
Electronic signboards will provide advance notice of changes to traffic patterns for both projects.
