Crime Stoppers Crimes of the Week


August 17, 2010

The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating two burglaries that occurred at the Rivermont Art Gallery located at 1011 Rivermont Ave. The two burglaries that detectives are requesting information on occurred June 18, 2010 and August 16, 2010. On both occasions, force was used to enter the building. During the June burglary, a small window was broken to gain entry. In August, entry was gained by breaking into the front door of the building. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from a cash box in June. The unidentified suspect(s) entered the building in August and attempted to take money from the cash box however, because money is no longer kept in the business the suspect was unsuccessful. Police detectives are requesting any information pertaining to the two incidences.

The Campbell County Sheriffs Office is investigating the burglary of a business on Route 29 in Campbell County. Sometime in the early morning hours an unknown W/M broke into Davis Produce Stand off Ward Road and stole two (2) cash registers. The subject arrived and left on foot.

August 3, 2010

On Monday, July 27, 2010 at approximately 12:11 p.m., officers with the Lynchburg Police Department responded to a police alarm at the Apple Market located at 4012 Wards Rd. The suspect entered the business by breaking out the front door glass with what appeared to be a “crowbar” type tool. Once inside the business, the suspect stole numerous packs of Marlboro red cigarettes. The unknown suspect, as seen in the store’s video surveillance, is described as a white male. He was wearing a blue hooded jacket, an orange hat, and gloves. The suspect’s vehicle can also be seen in the attached photos. The vehicle appears to be a purple colored compact vehicle.

July 27, 2010

On Thursday July 22, 2010 at approximately 8:12 p.m. the Lynchburg Police Department was dispatched to the 1300 block of Buchanan St. to investigate a firearms violation and an animal cruelty incident. Upon arriving on the scene, police discovered a male beagle mix dog that had been shot. The dog died a short time later as a result of the gunshot wound. The owner advised that the dog had gotten loose and was shot somewhere near 1313 Pierce St. The owner also stated that the dog was not aggressive. Neighbors advised that they heard one shot being fired around the time that the incident was reported. No witnesses were located and the suspect is unknown at this time.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating several burglaries that occurred at the Colleen Exxon. A bicycle and a green bag containing stolen merchandise from the Colleen Exxon was located in a ditch near Diggs Mountain Road in Arrington. The Nelson County Sheriff’s office would like to ask anyone that has information about the burglaries or who can identify the bicycle and bag to contact the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.

Bedford County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Area Burglaries

Bedford, Virginia –On Sunday morning July 4, 2010 deputies responded to the Dollar Tree located at 1128 East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike in Bedford in reference to a burglary. While processing the scene at Dollar Tree deputies were called to Little Caesars located at 1111 East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike for a burglary of Little Caesars. There were similarities in both burglaries and it is believed that the two individuals in the videos may have information that would assist Investigators. The two individuals in the video may be from North Carolina and be working in the area in construction type jobs.

May 18, 2010

The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred on Monday, May 17, 2010. At approximately 2:10 p.m. police officers were called to the 1600 block of Buchanan St. for a reported strong-arm robbery. Upon arriving on the scene, officers located the female victim who reported that she answered her door after hearing a knock. When she opened the door, an unknown black male in his 20’s grabbed the victim by the shirt collar and demanded money. The suspect took the victim’s purse and left the residence. The suspect was last seen running towards 17th St. and Buchanan St. The suspect is described as being a black male, early 20’s, approximately 6’1” tall, and 180 lbs. The victim stated that the suspect was wearing black pants, a black coat, and a black bandanna covering his face. An undisclosed amount of money was taken during the incident.

May 12, 2010

The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a robbery and an attempted robbery that occurred on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in the 2000 block of Garfield Ave. Between 10:27 p.m. and 11:05 p.m. an unknown black male suspect robbed a Domino’s Pizza delivery employee at gunpoint and attempted to rob a Mario’s Pizza delivery employee at gunpoint. The suspect is described as a young black male wearing a dark colored jacket and a dark colored pair of jeans. The rear pockets on the jeans appeared to be lighter in color than the color of the jeans. The suspect was described as being armed with a semi-automatic handgun. An undisclosed amount of money was taken during one of the incidents.

May 11, 2010

The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on Sunday, May 9, 2010. At approximately 9:27 p.m. police were called to the Meadows Apartment complex located at 2315 Yorktown Ave. for shots fired. A witness to the incident reported seeing an Allied Cab drop off a black male near the 300 building in the Meadows. The male suspect reportedly fired an unknown number of shots at another black male who ran into the 300 building. As the male victim was running, the suspect fired two more shots towards the 300 building. According to the caller, the suspect got back into the cab and left the area. There have been no reported injuries related to this incident.

Note: The persons who provided tip number CSI-378-717 and CSI-378-753 needs to contact Lieutenant J.C. Bauserman with the Lynchburg Police Department at 455-3747 to collect reward money. The call should be placed Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
