On June 1, 2013 from 7am-2pm the Lynchburg Community Market will celebrate 230 years as the central point of local commerce for the Hill City. The Lynchburg Community Market opened its doors at 12th and Main Street in 1783 as a farmer’s market to the Lynchburg community. We would like to mark this great milestone with a celebration that pays homage to the market’s unique place in history as the third oldest continuous running market in the United States while recognizing the new market traditions being created today. The theme of this celebration will be ‘Old as Dirt’ and will include aspects of the old City Market with livestock, heritage crafts, hearth cooking and demonstrations. Live local music, tastes of the market, and of course, all the local faces and delights you have all come to know and love at the market.
