Blackwater Creek Athletic Area
515 Monticello Avenue
Lynchburg, VA 24501
This park has a little bit of everything to offer a visitor, including Phase I of the only off-leash dog area in Lynchburg! The park also includes a connection to the Creekside Trail, which leads to the Blackwater Creek Natural Area, restrooms, and a multi-purpose lighted field that accommodates football, softball, baseball or soccer.
A rustic picnic shelter near the bottom of the hill offers a quiet site for a family get together, along with nice views of the surrounding parkland.
Renovations to the Blackwater Creek Athletic Area will begin this year.
Lynchburg Dog Park
The Blackwater Creek Athletic Area is the home of the Lynchburg dog park. Located adjacent to the athletic fields, Phase I (affectionately known as the Bare Bones Dog Park) opened on Friday, June 29, 2012. The dog park provides a safe place for dogs to run and play freely off-leash. The dog park is open dawn to dusk, 7 days a week.
Phase I includes separate fenced areas for large (over 30 lbs) dogs and small (under 30 lbs) dogs, a brick donors wall, and an information kiosk. For detailed information about the phases of the dog park, fund-raising information, and how to get involved as a volunteer, please visit the Friends of Lynchburg Dog Park website.
Please note that all dogs must have a license from their county or municipality to enter the dog park. To make sure you have a successful visit when visiting the dog park, please be sure to read the Dog Park Rules before your arrival.
