Successful applicants will possess:
- A high school diploma or GED; Excellent team skills
- A willingness to learn; Strong customer service skills
- The ability to function in stressful situations
- The ability to type a minimum of 45 words per minute
- Successfully take a battery of 15 computer related tests
- The ability to work a rotating day off schedule that includes weekends, and holidays
- The ability to work any of three shifts (midnight, daylight, and evenings)
- The ability to speak distinctly; The ability to gather facts from persons in crisis situations
The selection process will include:

A personal history free of drug abuse or criminal offenses

Typing & computer testing is conducted at the Lynchburg Emergency Communications Center

An initial certification process

An interview and a review board
-
Consent to a Drug & Alcohol Test

Fingerprinting conducted by the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD)

A polygraph examination
-
A thorough background investigation conducted by the LPD
Starting Salary: $26,624 annually (plus benefits)
