Blackwater Creek Bikeway

BWCNA BikersThe Blackwater Creek Bikeway extends for approximately three miles along an historic, abandoned railroad bed and was the first section of the James River Heritage Trail system to be completed in the late 1970's. From the Ed Page entrance on Old Langhorne Road, through the Hollins Mill Tunnel to the connection with RiverWalk, this paved trail is suitable for walkers, bikers, and strollers of all ages.  It is an ideal location for year-round observation of plants and wildlife, and the heavy shade afforded by the large trees keep the path cool even in the heat of summer.

Public parking is available at both the Ed Page and East Randolph Place entrances.
The Awareness Garden is also located at the Ed Page entrance. The garden is a special place for all of those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For more information be sure to look at the brochure box located in the garden.

Improvements to this section of the James River Heritage Trail include the Kemper Station Trail which connects to the Bikeway near mile marker 2.0 and terminates at the Kemper Street Train Station, allowing visitor access to an additional mile of multi-use trail, and connecting Midtown to the Blackwater Creek Natural Area and Bikeway. The Kemper Station trail was dedicated on March 30, 2006.
