Swimming Lessons
Parks and Recreation offers American Red Cross Learn to Swim classes. All classes are taught by certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors. Classes include: Parent & Child (18 months - 3 years), Toddler (Age 3), Preschool (Age 4 & 5), Learn to Swim Levels 1-6 (for ages 5-15) and Adult classes. Participants should refer to our Parent's Handbook for Swim Lessons to determine which class is appropriate for their age & skill level. Lifeguard Classes
Lynchburg Parks & Recreation offers training classes to become an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard. Certification includes training in First Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Participants must be at least 15 years old, complete a pre-course swim and pass a final written test and skills challenge in order to obtain certification. Classes are held in the early spring and in the summer. WSI Class
Lynchburg Parks & Recreation offers training class to become a Certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI). This course trains candidates to teach Water Safety, Parent & Child Aquatics and the six levels of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim classes. Candidates must be 16 or older & must pass a pre-course training and swim test (current lifeguard certification is strongly recommended). Birthday Parties
Have your child's birthday party at the pool during regular operating hours. Party packages provide entrance to the pool for up to 15 people (including chaperons), a separate party area and birthday cake. Parties can be reserved for Monday - Friday from 4-6 pm on weekends for a two hour time block during regular operating hours (Note: we can only accommodate one party at a time). A deluxe package is also available which includes a hotdog, chips and drink for each guest. For more information and availability please contact the Aquatics office.
Scholarship Program
The Lynchburg Parks and Recreation Department offers scholarships to City of Lynchburg residents who may need financial assistance. Scholarships are available to residents of all ages and can assist in paying for a program offered through our department. Click the following link to download our Scholarship Application form.
