Volunteer for Parks & Recreation

The Parks and Recreation Department counts on groups and individuals to volunteer their time and talent! There is always a place for you here at Parks and Recreation, so read about our opportunities to see how you can lend a hand. If you have an idea of how you can help but we don't have a job listed, please call and talk to us to see how we can work together. Phone numbers are listed with each program area.

Athletics

The Athletics program has a number of community partnerships that allow us the flexibility to offer additional programs for youth and adults throughout the community.

Email Maggie Mace or call her at (434) 455-5882 for more information about volunteering with the Athletics program.

Naturalist Adventure Program

The Naturalist Adventure program relies on volunteers for all sorts of help, from leading hikes and campfire programs to providing daily care for our animals in the Nature Zone. We always need another hand to help us out in the Nature Zone, so be sure to call us whether you already have special skills, want to learn more about our animals or just want to help out. We also help fit volunteers into our Adopt-A-Trail program, so if keeping our parks and trails in good shape appeals to you, give us a call.

Email Laura Rogers or call her at (434) 455-5878 for more information about volunteering with the Naturalist/Adventure program.

50 Plus

The 50 Plus program uses volunteers in lots of ways. If you would like to help lead a special program or event, help set up for programs or center activities or have some special skills to share, the 50 Plus program would love to hear from you.

Email Marilyn Bryant or call her at (434) 455-5857 for more information about volunteering with the 50 Plus program.

Youth and Neighborhood Services

Youth and Neighborhood Services provide after-school and summer programming at seven community centers throughout the City of Lynchburg. Volunteers are needed on either a one-time or continuing basis. Some of the activities you can help with include assisting in after-school tutoring programs, helping with games and other activities, assisting with the Kid's Café Program, or helping our staff prepare for special programs and enrichment activities. Volunteering provides countless benefits for you and those you help, so be sure to contact us if you want to know more about how you can help.

Email Benita Ripley or call her at (434) 455-5877 for more information about volunteering with Youth and Neighborhood Services.
