“That every child in America shall have a chance to play; that everybody in America, young or old, shall have the opportunity to find the best and most satisfying use of leisure time.”  The National Recreation Association, 1943

“Play for grown people is recreation—the renewal of life.  For children it is growth—the gaining of life.”  Joseph Lee, early leader of the National Recreation Association

The Lynchburg Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer a wide variety of recreational programs for the community. Please click on the links to explore our offerings; arts, naturalist, athleticsyouth or senior adult programs. You can also download our seasonal guide, which includes information about individual classes, registration, payment, refunds and important dates.

Programs are held at the Miller Center at 301 Grove Street, as well as in parks and neighborhood centers throughout the City of Lynchburg.  Some of our programs are free, while others have a fee for participants.  The Lynchburg Parks and Recreation Department offers scholarships for some City participants who may need financial assistance. Click on the scholarship page link to find out more information and to download the application form.

We hope you will join us for a class, activity or trip this year, and that you'll let others know about our programs.
