LEAD-SAFE LYNCHBURG
Dedicated to safe and healthy homes and families…
In 1998, The City of Lynchburg was awarded a Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).Through this funding, the Lead-Safe Lynchburg program was created. The goals of Lead-Safe Lynchburg (LSL) are to educate the community about lead, make homes built before 1978 lead-safe and teach the residents of Lynchburg ways to continue living lead-safe after grant funding is gone.
* Lead poisoning is a serious health condition that is 100% preventable.
* Lead is harmful to children under six because their bodies are developing.
* Lead can damage the brain, interfere with growth and make learning difficult.
* Lead at high levels can even cause death.
* The major sources of lead in your home are chipping, peeling paint, lead dust and lead found in soil.
On the following pages you can find the Lynchburg Housing Registry that lists the units that have been inspected for lead hazards, had hazard reduction work performed, passed a clearance test (according to Environmental Protection Agency standards). We give the date when the unit was declared lead-safe.
LSL offers the information in the Housing Registry as a tool to the community so local residents can find housing where lead hazards have been identified and reduced.
The units listed in our Housing Registry have received follow-up testing again at 3, 6 and 12 months after clearance; the results of those tests are available to anyone interested.
For more information, please call Lead-Safe Lynchburg at 455-3914 or 846-7233.
