On July 31, the City of Lynchburg and the Junior League of Lynchburg opened the Riverside Park Sprayground. Photos of the event (downloadable from Google Web Albums; just click on the slideshow at any time - photos taken by the City of Lynchburg):

The sprayground is the first of its kind in Lynchburg and a great asset for children of all ages.  Approximately 1,900 square-feet, the aquatic playground was developed as part of the master plan for the renovation of Riverside Park. The Junior League of Lynchburg donated $125,000 to help build the sprayground in partnership with the City of Lynchburg.

The sprayground offers an array of water play activities to “beat the summer heat.”  Water play components include dumping buckets, spraying lake fish, pop jets and tulip sprays. The sprayground meets ADA accessibility guidelines and has a zero depth entry on a concrete even surface. The facility uses re-circulated, chemically treated water making it GREEN and CLEAN!

The sprayground serves families and children in a neighborhood setting and is open to the public but not meant for organized, large-scale groups. All children ages 12 and under must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian.

The sprayground will be open daily from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. now until October 1.  For information, contact Andrew Reeder, Parks and Recreation Department at 455-5876.
