Water Utility Service
The City of Lynchburg provides water utility services. To make application for water service please contact the Billings and Collections Division at 455-3840, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Usually the application can be completed over the phone, however, in some cases, you may be asked to come to City Hall to complete the application in person. You will be asked to provide your name, address, whether or not you rent and other name(s) on the lease.
A $75 deposit or a letter of good credit history from your previous utility company is also required. You will also be asked for the date you wish to have your water service turned on. Within 24 hours of the turn-on date a meter-reader from Utilities will come to your address to read the meter and if necessary turn on your water.
No extra paperwork is required for sewer service, however, some parts of the City are not on the sewer system. Billings and Collections will inform you whether or not your are on the City's sewer system.

Lynchburg's Water Source
Lynchburg's primary water source is the 125-acre Pedlar Reservoir, located in the George Washington National Forest on approximately 500 acres owned by the City.
More than 12 million gallons of water per day are transported by gravity in a 21-mile pipeline from this pristine mountain location. Water is also drawn from the James River at two locations. After treatment water is then delivered under pressure to customers through the water distribution system on a continuous basis.
Recently the City installed a powerful generator at one of its primary water pumping stations that can continue to supply water to citizens in the event of a power failure.
